The Unstoppable Rise of Women’s Sport

In many of the early editions of the Olympics; not only were women not allowed to participate, they were not even allowed to attend the international multi-sport event. While this was not uncommon place back in ancient times, it would have been hard to imagine that even hundreds of years ago women are not only now playing professional sports but they are garnering quite a lot of new spectators and audiences.

It is now not unusual to see women’s sports as part of your dedicated sports package. It is not just audience participation which can seen a significant increase, the level of investments from sporting associations has seen an impressive rise.

So let’s take a look at the seemingly unstoppable rise of women’s sport.

A Surge In Popularity

Back in 2020, the Women’s T20 World Cup made history when it became the most watched female sporting event in history. It was estimated that over 1.1 billion people watched it world wide.

In addition, the 2018 edition of the FIFA Women’s world cup saw well over 400 million as well as being broadcast all over the world. It is not just sheer volume which is so impressive, it is how passionately the fans are at games and how interactive they are.

Rise In Funding

Most professional level sports require a sufficient amount of funding to succeed and expand. For example, Formula one would not be the pinnacle of motorsport without decent levels of funding. This is why it is beyond reassuring to learn that women’s sport is garnering quite a lot of investment in the western world.

Sport England advised that over the course of the last 10 years they have made an incredible £250 million. In more recent history, the Football Association and Barclays agreed a new £30 million a year starting in 2022.

It Paves The Way For Women To Be Innovate

When it comes to women’s rights in Crewe, we understand that women also need to find ways to innovate and be trailblazers. This is much the same worldwide in fact. Luckily, women’s sport offers a fantastic platform for women to make their voices heard and to of course innovate.

In 2021, despite the economic hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic, the WNBA players successfully renegotiated more appropriate salaries and benefits.

Accompanying this is the fact that many celebrity sports women have been able to use their platform to tackle many women’s issue; whether it’s regarding women’s security otherwise. From Serena Williams dealing speaking out against the sexist questions received regarding giving up sport after giving birth. In addition to this; Megan Rapineo who highlighted issue of the gender pay inequality. The fantastic world offer a great stage for women to stand up and make their voices heard.
